Surname Research
Hello. Sue and I have been able to compile a list of family names. Like everyone else we have found that the can be many variation in spelling, assumed surname changes, familiar names, proper names, nick names, etc. It seems that most of those individuals in our research went by different names at some time in their life. Sue's birth family name was KERN. Research shows that her grandfather assumed his
stepfather's last name. SCHNELZAUER. The same holds true for me. My grandfather did the same. I was born a PATTERSON, but I find that it could be WETMORE, WHETMORE WHETTEMORE, or some other variation. My grandfather could not read nor write and signed his name with an "X". So here are a few of the surnames that we have included in our research.(Note: The picture here is of the 1935 reunion of the OATES family. Only a few faces are known pictured here.)
