You and Julie Lawrey have been wonderful! She sent me a listing of OATS families/entries from the 1881 UK Census. It is in Microsoft Word format, but I can convert it to text format if you wish. Do you already have this or do you want me to send you a copy as an attachment to an e-mail?

I am interested in Elizabeth (Oates) Berryman's birth certificate/record and I will send you date information as soon as I can. I have to write to her daughter, Mrs. Beryl Instance for dates and permission. Feel free e-mail me directly at jsykora1@iwon.com or jsykona@remc11.k12.mi.us.

By the way, for your records. Richard Thomas Oates (1856-1921) was my GGGrandfather. He is the son of the Richard Jeffery Oats (1831-1886) that you found for me (hip-hip-horah!!). He immigrated to the US Abt. 1882 and worked on the farm of David Scott near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA. Richard Thomas Oates then married Elizabeth Scott in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on March 1, 1883 by the "Justice of the Peace", James H. Berry. They had 13 children. I have birth-death-spouse information on the children if you want it.

Richard Jeffery's family? I assume Brane is a town name and the age of Richard 10 seems to fit.
Sorry about the lack of solid information at the start. You have been an outstanding trooper to have helped me with this. Now I need to start collecting documents. Any suggestions where to write and how to approach the correct people?

I am working on the St Just 1891 Census and have just come across the following:
William Oats, single, aged 19, baker, born St Just - living as a boarder in the household of William and Hester Harvey, Queen Street, Folio 31. Further to my previous message: living in Queen Street, Folio 39 were Fanny Oats, Widow, 51, b St Just, and children Richard, 20, Tin & Copper Miner, b St Just, James A, 18,, Tin & Copper Miner, b St Just, Thomas, 16, Tin & Copper Miner, b St Just, Beatrice, 14, b St Just and James W, Grandson, 2, b Madron.

Just tried the www.old-maps.co.uk link and it worked. I typed "Crippas Hill" in the "Address" search box and chose the address in St. Just-in-Penwith address and Rose Cottage. It then produced and 1887 map of the area including Cripples Hill, Bosworlas Mine, and Bosworlas Moor.

Feel free to write to me directly at jsykora1@iwon.com. I cam across the information only recently and with the help of Robert Oats and Julie Lawrey. They are the real experts and are very helpful. My interest is primarily in Richard son of Richard Jeffrey Oats, but here is what Robert Oats sent me and I have been able to use it to find Robert Jeffrey Oats' family in the 1841 UK Census in Sancreed which included a "Grace Oats".

Just wanted to let you know I've changed the spelling for Karl Schnelzauer in our files and the website will be corrected when our guy does the next update.

Also, Louis Oberman was cremated and placed on top of Edward in B-Singles, Row #12, Grave #177. The interment card for Louis was in a different set of files for interments after 1920 (He died 10-20-1936). For you info he died in Pittsburgh at the age of 63 from pneumonia.

And since we had a dead day today (no pun intended) I sent the boss out with the book to try and locate this grave. If you are ever in the area again here's what to do.

Row #1 in B-Singles is located next to the fence on the Cemetery's border with the last row (#22) by the gravel road. You need to get to row #13 which is in front of the Oberman grave and located Paul Sarvey's headstone. Also in this row approx. 4 graves away is a stone for John Boren (Boreau) but it's Paul's headstone that you want to stay by.

In Row #12 behind and slightly at an angle to Paul's grave is a headstone for John Betters however the boss said it is not very legible. Next to this stone is a tree and then you will have reached the Oberman grave site.

============================================
My grandfather was Frank Hitchens. His son George Hitchens is my father.

Frank Hitchens parents were William Hitchens and Marie Oberman (sometimes spelled Obermann). They were married 13 Oct 1887 at McKeesport and lived in McKeesport. They had 14 children. Marie was born 10 Nov 1869, Stiar, Austria, died 1 Oct 1943, McKeesport, PA.

This is the information regarding Marie's parents as it is written in my grandfather Frank's family bible: Father Edward Obermann. Born in Austria-Germany, City of Wein in 1835, Jan 5. Died in McKeesport April 8th 1889, 54 years, 3 m. 3 days. Mother Madilien Obermann. Sneegoss. Born May 18-1848 in Grunburg, Germany. Died in McKeesport January 15, 1924. Age 75, 7 m, 3 D.

Wein is Vienna. I think Sneegoss is her maiden name, although I also have Alzinger in my notes as a possible maiden name.

I received your Email with the photo. Yes, I do think that you are right about the identities. Anna looks very much like Marie and the woman on the left looks like the photo I have of a younger Madilien. I will send you the photos I have with a separate Email.

Here the information I have regarding the immigration:

Built by Caird & Co, Greenock in 1868 for North German Lloyd of Bremen, this
was a 2,394 gross ton ship, length 290.2ft x beam 39ft, clipper stem, one

Launched 18th Dec.1868, she sailed from Bremen in March 1869 on her maiden
voyage to Southampton and Baltimore. On 6th Sep.1871 she started her first
Bremen - Southampton - New York voyage and made 11 round voyages on this
route, the last in 1883. Between 1880-81 her engines were compounded by AG
Vulvan, Stettin, and she commenced her last Bremen - Baltimore voyage on 3rd
Oct.1883. On 24th Mar.1884 she was transferred to the Bremen - South America

"Amazzone". She was again renamed in 1897 to "Rio Santa Cruz" and was hulked
in 1903. [North Atlantic Seaway by N.R.P.Bonsor, vol.2,p.546-7]

I have tried to find census information for them, but have not found them yet on the census.

I can ask my father George if he remembers Marie?s sister Anna. They all lived in McKeesport, so he may remember family reunions. Did you grow up in McKeesport? My Dad was born there in 1928 and went to University. of Pittsburgh. He now lives near San Diego.

Maybe together we can track the family back in Austria and/or Germany.

I am in the process of switching Email addresses, so please write to me at this, my new, address. Thanks
