Obituary
Joseph B. Whyte of Pinconning, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, March 15, 2013 following an acute illness. Joe was a resident at Saint Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital. He was born in Pinconning on January 6, 1929. He married the love of his life, Carmelita Janke, on January 31, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bay City. He was the proprietor of Whyte Recreation (home of the Scotch Mixed Doubles Bowling Tournament) for 46 years, retiring in 1984. Joe was a life-long member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church and the Father Flajole Council 2986 of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid bowler, softball player and golfer, but most of all he enjoyed every moment spent with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years and their children, Ellen (Richard) Laur of Standish, Michael (Connie) Whyte of AuGres, Carol Whyte of Rockford, Barbie (Steve) Sanak of Birmingham, AL, James (Terri) Whyte of Mount Pleasant and Annie Whyte of Maumee, OH; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, due to be born in April. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel S. and Florence (Purtell) Whyte, his siblings, Neal, Geraldine (LaPorte), Aileen (Bordeau) and John Whyte. His funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 10:00 AM from St. Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Jozwiak presiding with burial in the Saint Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home in Pinconning on Tuesday March 19, from 3:00-9:00 PM. He will lie-in-state at the church from 9:00 AM until time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Saint Michael's School Endowment Fund. The family would like to express a very special thank-you to Saint Mary's Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility and CCU staff, Dr. Tazeen Ahmed, MD., Dr. Antonio Mendiola, Jr., MD., Deacon Gary and Arlene Patelski, Fr. Christopher Coman and Heartland Hospice and staff, for their love and compassionate care of Joe, and the special friends he made along the way at Saint Mary's during his stay.
