Siple Mary C. [Female] b. 1842 McCandless Township, Pennsylvania

Email from John Sykora, January 18, 2005
"MARY C. SCOTT, post office Coal Valley, daughter of Adam Siple (a native of
Germany), was born in 1842, in McCandless township, where her father
settled on coming to this country. Adam Siple married Anna E. White, of
Allegheny county, and they were the parents of three children: Lewis, Eva
and Mary C. Mary C., in 1872, married Josiah Aber, of Jefferson township,
And they settled on the farm she now owns. He died Feb. 14, 1881, leaving
three children: Anna L., Mary E., and Ida May. Mrs. Mary C. Aber was
married, in 1885, to David Scott, who is now engaged in farming, and they
have one child, William L."

I found this reference to David and Mary Scott. For the last few years I
thought that Mary C. was Mary C. Flowers but this lists her as Mary C.
Siple. The web page I got it from is
http://wilkinson-topley.rootsweb.com/posted.htm and contains the Wilkenson
and Topley family. It contains references from a book titled "History of
Allegheny County Pennsylvania, Vol. II" by A. Warner and Co.,
1889(facsimile reprint published 1993 by Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, MD).
Rather an exciting find! Now to find the book!

Was buried in Valley Cemetery Ubly, Feb 17, 1968. Survivors: his spouse
Mary Young, 4 daughters, 1 son, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren,
2 brothers, 4 sisters. - obituary from Maxine Kennedy
From Maxine's Memories
Uncle Bill Spaetzel: my only memory of him is his holding a wash dish of
water and having a steady stream of blood coming from his nose. I think
I was told that he was gassed in WWI but I don't know if that is true.
(per Douglas W. Ackerman: My grandfather was not in the service, but he
did have ruptured blood vessels in his nose and suffered nose bleeds
until they were cauterized.)
William Spaetzel and his wife Mary went to church most every Sunday. The
church was located between Austin Center and Argyle, Michigan off M19.
It was a small one room Lutheran Church. The residing pastors for many
years were Pastor Keineth and Pastor Gulig. The name of the church was
possibly Evangelical Lutheran and the records may have been transferred
to Bad Axe when the church closed. All of the Spaetzel children were
baptized and confirmed here.
The Great Farm Adventure by Douglas W. Ackerman - August 11, 1997
A simple but mammoth structure, but even more so when you are a
child. The wonder and curiosity of all the creatures within its walls -
insects, birds and wild beasts. A young boy's haven or secret lair to be
appreciated and shared by another his age who can also imagine the
wonders and mysteries of this hallowed place. All days within these
walls can be different or exactly the same - a haven or play area, a
place to watch time lazily glitter through the cracks - or a place to
unknowingly gather work ethic taught only by team work and hard family
toil. The seasons filling up and emptying a lifetime of memories to be
shared by few. The strength received and the love shared will only be
known by those who were there, and who dream, and remember.... one of my
favorite places, the barn.
A place to tread where only time controls distance. When a day was
a lifetime and not a fleeting moment of repetitious habit too mundane to
remember. A child's curiosity peaks with each step through manicured win
roes of straw or while investigating the newly turned furrow of the
plow. Those amazing finds, the rocks, the pieces of wood, the stone
piles with all their miraculous treasures. My pockets have seen a
multitude of boys imagination in both real life and not. Walking down
past memories of hide and seek in the towering corn or by the foot steps
of Indian's, animals, living creatures - and maybe the undead if you
listen hard enough at night to the wind whistling through the roots of
your genealogical past. The remembrance of old Pine Stump and that old
field cat. The songs sang in the fields taken by the wind - disappearing
through time only but not from my mind. The laughter and the bond
sometimes created by tears or the agreements and disagreements that could
only be appreciated by the closeness of family. Truly something special
- only few could understand and remember the way I perceive those steps
of my life. Every day changing yet the same... a place that you can
count on as being there forever. Someday I hope another child will also
walk those fields and appreciate them for what they are... a link to the
past and the future... changing yet constant as a family's

F.S. was my grandfather, Ruth my mother. F.S. dad who was born in North Carolina, came to Arkansas in 1859, joined the Third Texas Battalion under Hood, and continued throughout the entire Civil War. He was a Chaplain. He was Baptist and founded a number of Churches in the South East part of Arkansas when he came back. He was never injured despite being part of nearly every major battle including Gettysburg, Shiloh, Both Wildernesses, and Chickamauga. His brother who was in the 3rd Arkansas lost his foot at Chickamauga, went home, carved a wooden foot for him self and became a Dr. Speaking of which, Len, please keep us advised on how you are doing. I see two Dr.s today for regular checkups. Betty continues to improve, Thank God, but the medication is hard on her. I am getting more excited about retiring next year. The hectic schedule is finally getting to me. We will be going to New Mexico the first two weeks in March and I can hardly wait. gene
